At MD Moms, we care about the products we choose to use, and we try to steer clear of any harmful ingredients to keep our families safe. This also translates into our diet and the foods we choose to consume. You probably know how important it is to eat a balanced diet full of lots of fruits and veggies, but did you know that these foods could contain potentially harmful pesticides?
The U.S. Department of Agriculture found that nearly 70 percent of samples of 48 types of conventionally grown produce were contaminated with pesticide residues. However, this doesn’t mean that you should stop eating healthy fruits and vegetables. What you can do is try to buy as many of these foods organically as possible.
The Environmental Working Group has released their “Dirty Dozen” of the worst pesticide-containing foods for 2017. Each of these foods tested positive for a number of different pesticide residues and contained higher concentrations of pesticides than other produce.
Here are the top 12 foods you should try to buy organically:
- Sweet bell peppers
If you don’t buy these foods organically, remember to wash and, if possible, scrub the outside thoroughly before eating them. Buying organic foods and making sure your produce is washed properly is just one step you can take to ensure your children are not exposed to harmful chemicals.
